WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines
The WSET wine course for beginners
This course is a basic level introduction to wine, for those who wish to start a career in the wine industry or for wine enthusiasts. In this course, you will explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make appropriate food and wine pairings.
Upon successful completion, you will receive the internationally recognised WSET certificate and a lapel pin.

- The main types and styles of wine
- Common wine grapes and their characteristics
- How to store and serve wine
- The principles of food and wine pairing
- How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 45 minutes.
No formal qualifications are required. Candidates should be over 18 years of age (Minors aged 16 and over require the written consent of their legal guardian to participate).
Candidates who choose not to drink alcohol for health, religious or other reason will not find a barrier to successfully completing the course.

What is included in the course fee
The course fee includes the WSET Level 1 study guide (supplied on the course day), tasting of about 10 wines, tuition, exam, certificate and lapel pin.
