Isabel Kottmann discovered her love for wine during a one-year stay in France as an au pair, (her host family regularly indulged in the combination of red wine and oysters - although she preferred red wine from the beginning...).


After training as a hotel manager at the Maritim Grand Hotel, Hannover and working in gastronomy for the first few years, she was always drawn to faraway destinations. Initially, she travelled around the world, as a hotel assistant, onboard the cruise ship MS Astor. 


Before, and during, her business administration studies at the University of Trier, she completed internships at wineries in France (Château Lascombes, Margaux) and Chile (Viña Casa Donoso, Talca) as well as in the Mosel Region Wine Promotion Department. During an 8-month internship at the German National Tourist Board, and in the trade fair department of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, she wrote her diploma thesis on the possibilities of electronic networking.


This is how Isabel Kottmann became more and more captivated by her two great passions - wine and tourism. After exciting years as an export and marketing assistant for a German winery and part-time studies for her WSET Diploma at the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) in London, she has been working as a freelancer ( since 2010. From 2014 to 2020, she also worked for the Spanish family business González Byass, traveling all over Germany (always with her: a good bottle of wine and the desire to infect guests with her enthusiasm). Her current professional focus is to qualify and inspire students for the international wine industry as a lecturer for International Marketing Management at Geisenheim University.

The experiences, training and encounters of her life so far, fit together to create a colourful mosaic, and Isabel looks forward to adding many more colourful pieces to this mosaic with you!
